"Expanding Our Horizons in Faith, Knowledge and Community"
Transfiguration School and Parish will celebrate their second annual Family Fair day on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. at Columbus Park. The Family Fair has two purposes. First, it is an opportunity for Transfiguration families and the other members of the downtown community to participate in family-friendly, arts and crafts activities and enjoy performances by the school dance troupe, school choir, and church choir. Second, it allows the school to fundraise for building improvements, curriculum enrichment and scholarship programs through individual and corporate sponsorships and donations. Admission is free and open to the public.
Transfiguration School enjoys an unsurpassed reputation in providing quality pre-school and elementary education in a family-centered, supportive environment. Transfiguration School has been part of the Roman Catholic Parish of the Transfiguration in Lower Manhattan for 179 years. It currently enrolls 530 students from 3 to 14 years of age.

Steampunk Haunted House: Through the Looking Glass  Back by popular demand for a third season, the visually stunning, lushly designed Steampunk Haunted House returns in October 2011 and takes audiences into the darker, more terrifying aspects of Lewis Carroll's classic stories. In this immersive experience, audience members are admitted in small groups, suddenly separated, and thrust into a beautiful and terrifying dreamscape of neo-Victorian elegance and phantasmagoric clockwork horrors.
The experience sprawls throughout the three floors of Abrons' majestic century-old playhouse, its innumerable twisting hallways, looming balconies, and labyrinthine cellars.
Created by Bessie Award-winning artists of Third Rail Projects, the Steampunk Haunted House is an integration of contemporary installation, dance, and performance art, and is an accessible, fun, utterly breathtaking experience. Unlike traditional haunted houses that rely on gore or graphic violence to horrify their patrons, this event chills, delights, and terrifies its audience without showing a single drop of blood. Artist Talk: The Travelers with Lee Mingwei and Eugenie Tsai

The Travelers & the Quartet Project is a solo exhibition of works by Taiwan-born American artist Lee Mingwei, inspired by the artist's own itinerant early life and the stories of Chinese immigration to America. Both projects address the essential question of "where is home?" and contribute to the dialog on the legacy of Chinese in America from an artistic point of view.

Visit the restored homes of two Eastern European Jewish families who lived in 97 Orchard Street at the turn of the 20th century, when the neighborhood was the most densely populated place on earth. See how the Levine family operated a garment factory in their own apartment, then pay a shiva (bereavement) call to the Rogarshevsky family as they mourn the loss of their father from the "tailors' disease."
This tour lasts 60 minutes.
Recommended for ages 8 & up. This tour goes to the 3rd Floor: 38 steps up, 31 down First tour at 10:15am, last tour at 5pm, 7 days a week.

 Free Chinatown Food Tour
The Free Chinatown Food Tour takes place every Tuesday at 1pm from the Chinatown Information Booth on Canal between Baxter and Mulberry Streets. Guests should look for the guide with the Free Tours by Foot logo. The tour is free, but guides work just for gratuities. Food is not included (estimated at $7-$10).
The tour will take you through Chinatown to sample tasty fried dumplings, tapioca bubble tea, taro-filled sticky buns, candied crabs and much more. The tour has been designed to provide visitors with excellent insight into the neighborhood's culinary possibilities. Take a pan-Asian culinary and cultural journey without leaving Manhattan.
