The Chinatown Clean Streets initiative addresses the sanitation needs of the neighborhood and demonstrates to the community the economic value of a cleaner commercial district and provides employment opportunities for local residents. In addition, the program includes outreach and educational services critical to the realization of a public and private partnership with the goal of revitalizing the Chinatown community.
Sanitation & supplemental services program is in addition to, not in replacement of, existing sanitation services provided by the City.
Supplemental cleaning services include: manual sweeping and cleaning of sidewalks, curbs and gutters; emptying and bagging of pedestrian trash receptacles; pressure washing of sidewalks, cleaning of graffiti from street furniture and building surfaces accessible from the street; maintenance of street trees and tree pits; and snow removal at bus stops, street corners and crosswalks. Illegal posters and stickers are removed, and catch basins receive attention.
Uniformed maintenance personnel work 7 days a week between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., to sweep sidewalks and curbs of about 45 block area (180 block faces) in Chinatown.
